Who can claim VAT refund
As per the federal tax authority it is required that every taxable person must file a VAT return which summarizes the VAT due for the tax period. In cases where the input tax is greater than the output tax on a VAT return, then the taxable person can claim for VAT refund after submitting the VAT return.
Normally the FTA will review the application and notify the taxable person of its decision within 20 business days after the submission of the application. They may either accept or reject the refund claim. In case if they require a longer period than 20 business days, the applicant will be notified by the FTA.
The main steps in submitting the claim are:
- Login to the FTA’s e-services portal using your username and password
- Go to the VAT tab, then to the VAT refunds tab
- Access the form by clicking on ‘VAT Refund Request’ button
- Complete the form and submit it
It will take 20 business days to process the submission. The FTA will send an email notification as a result of your application. After the approval of the claim, the amount will be refunded within 5 business days.
You will be receiving a confirmation email of the refund and you may check the balance in ‘My Payment’ tab under the transaction history section. If you have any doubt during this process call us 04 443 1604
